The Sommelier Association of Malaysia (SOMLAY) has been formed with the objective of providing an avenue for the improvement of all aspects of wine service in the Malaysian hospitality industry. This includes uplifting the standards of sommeliers within Malaysia, encompassing areas including wine knowledge, as well as service.
Primarily, SOMLAY intends to act as a conduit for members of the hospitality industry to exchange ideas, and for young and eager sommeliers to be able to learn from more experienced members in the industry.
SOMLAY aims to provide avenues for integration with like-minded Associations the world over to allow Malaysian sommeliers to keep abreast of international developments and also be able to interact with sommeliers from the international scene. In addition, the society hopes to encourage members to be active in international sommelier forums, events and competitions to ensure that Malaysians may stand equal with their fellow counterparts from around the world.
